Subject: Electrical Demand Management Response

All,
The extreme heat and humidity expected today and tomorrow will provide opportunities to significantly reduce electric use during the region’s peak period while only suffering a few hours of abnormal conditions.  With this is mind, beginning today at 2 PM until approximately 6 PM and tomorrow between the hours of 3 PM and 7 PM HKS will be instituting its load shedding protocol.  This will involve the raising of the chilled water temperature in our buildings a couple of degrees ( increasing the room temperature by a couple of degrees as well), turning off all lighting in hallways and classrooms with windows, and delaying the use of the dishwashing machines.  It is also encouraged that all unnecessary lighting and office machines be turned off especially during this period as well.  In the past the University has been able to save hundreds of thousands in demand electrical charges by successfully shedding electrical loads.

Thank you for your cooperation during this period.
