Ayer me terminé Naturalist, de Wilson. Es su biografía, y resulta bastante interesante en sí misma, además de resumir brevemente sus ideas principales (sociobiología, biodiversidad, etc.). A mí al menos este tipo de libros me inspiran y me motivan, aunque supongo que para eso te tiene que gustar la personalidad del autor y los temas de los que discute: en este caso, sobre la investigación universitaria, y sobre el medio ambiente y la biología. Como otras veces, un par de párrafos seleccionados:
A truly creative scientist gambles repeatedly on risky projects, stays alert and aggressive, ready to move whenever a long shot shows a hint of promise.
The worst thing that can happen, will happen, is not energy depletion, economic collapse, limited nuclear war, or conquest by a totalitarian government. As terrible as these catastrophes would be for us, they can be repaired within a few generations. The one process ongoing in the 80s that will take millions of years to correct is the loss of genetic and species diversity by the destruction of natural habitats. This is the folly our descendants are least likely to forgive us (Resolutions for the 80s, Harvard Magazine, Jan-Feb 1980, pp. 22-26).
